Rudolph the Red Nose Raindeer: 'Misfits'

Christmas Song- Happy Xmas (War is Over)- John Lennon & Yoko Ono

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

RUDOLPH THE RED NOSED REINDEER

Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer (1944/1948) Christmas Cartoon Classic by Max Fleischer (CLIP)

Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer (1948). The last cartoon ever produced by Max Fleischer who produced the Popeye the Sailor man, Betty Boop and Koko the Clown cartoons from the 1910's to the 1940's. (Click HQ for HD)
You know Dasher, Dancer, etc., as the song goes and for the past several decades, you've known Rudolph as well. He's become so familiar a part of the Christmas scene that, like his contemporaries, the gremlins, a lot of people aren't even aware that he only goes back to the early-to-middle 20th century. Rudolph began as an attempt to promote a chain of department stores.
It was in 1939 that Montgomery Ward, which had been giving away coloring books every Christmas for years, decided to produce its promotional give-away in-house. Robert L. May, who worked there as an advertising copywriter, was commissioned to write a story for young readers, and the result was Rudolph. May drew on some of his own childhood experiences as a puny kid that other kids sometimes picked on, to craft a story of a picked-on kid who made good, prospering as a result of the very attribute the others made fun of.
Though the story, written in the form of rhyming couplets, passed its first test with flying colors, Montgomery Ward's publicity department initially chose not to follow the judgment of May's 4-year-old daughter, to whom he'd read the story aloud as he wrote it. Red noses smacked of drunkenness, they said, which made them inappropriate for a sweet, gentle, parent-friendly Christmas story. But May enlisted illustrator Denver Gillen, a co-worker in the advertising department, to show just how parent-friendly Rudolph could be. With Gillen's artwork, they okayed it after all, and the department store chain gave away 2.4 million copies that year. Millions more were given away over the next several years.
Rudolph hit the big screen in 1944. Max Fleischer, in a rare commercial credit following the closure of his studio, produced an animated version of the Rudolph story for The Jam Handy Organization (a Detroit studio that isn't as well known as the ones in Hollywood). That cartoon was shown endlessly on TV during the 1950s and early '60s. Unlike most Rudolph products, it's fallen out of copyright, and is now available on many inexpensive videotapes and DVDs of public domain Christmas shorts.
DVD ► http://bit.ly/RudolphReindeer
In 1947, May negotiated ownership of the Rudolph property, which had hitherto been held solely by Montgomery Ward. It was shortly afterward that his brother-in-law, Johnny Marks, wrote Rudolph's famous song, first recorded by cowboy star Gene Autry in 1949. The recording not only sold two million copies that year. The most familiar of Rudolph's media adaptations.
Next came the comic book, which recounted Rudolph's subsequent adventures, after he'd become a part of Santa Claus's team. DC Comics published a new issue each December from 1950-62. Most were drawn by Rube Grossman (Peter Panda, Three Mouseketeers). The DC version was briefly revived in 1972 as a tabloid, written and drawn by Sheldon Mayer (Sugar & Spike, The Red Tornado). While the DC version was running, Little Golden Books produced its own version of the story, and followed it with Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Shines Again.
Rankin/Bass Productions (Thundercats, Silverhawks) did the best-known animated version, the one narrated by Burl Ives as Sam the Snowman, which debuted on NBC December 6, 1964. Rather than traditional cel animation, they used a stop-motion technique with puppets, similar to George Pal's Puppetoons, but which they promoted under the trademarked name "Animagic". Rudolph's voice was done by Billie Mae Richards (Bobby in King Kong). Richards reprised her role in a couple of follow-ups, Rudolph's Shiny New Year (1976) and Rudolph & Frosty's Christmas in July (1979).
Long surpassed by the 1964 Rankin / Bass version, this 1948 animated version of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer directed by Max Fleischer is enjoyable in its own right. Narrated by Paul Wing, the story begins with the lead character already not allowed to skate on ice with the others (all of whom wear pillows on their backs to break their falls). His mother then calls him (there's no father here) and as Rudolph sleeps in his bed, Santa has trouble with his eight reindeer (who he calls by name as they pass him) with the fog and blizzard in his way.

The Day The Music Died

Thrirty years ago today, former Beatle John Lennon was shot outside his New York City apartment by an obsessed fan. At the time, Lennon had returned to music with the release of his and Yoko Ono's album "Double Fantasy."
Since then, his story has been rewritten many times by fans and family members.
John Winston Lennon was born in Liverpool during a German air raid in World War II. His first name came from his paternal grandfather (who else was he named after?). Young John didn't see much of his dad (what did he do?), and his parents eventually split.

The Quarrymen
July 6, 1957
Lennon and Paul McCartney reportedly were impressed enough with each other on the day they met (what was Lennon doing?) that McCartney joined Lennon's skiffle band (what's that?). Several months later, McCartney brought in another member.

Julia Lennon
July 15, 1958
Lennon's mother, Julia Lennon, was struck and killed by a car while walking home from a relative's house. (Who was the driver?) By then, Lennon was in art school, where he was regarded as a disruptive influence. (Why?)

The Beatles
February 1961
The Beatles made their debut at Liverpool's Cavern Club. (What American group inspired their name change?) The group had been polishing their act in Germany. (Who was their drummer?)

Brian Epstein
November 1961
When the Beatles' soon-to-be manager heard them play, he said he was immediately struck by their music, beat and sense of humor. What else struck him? The band had been turned down a lot before they secured a recording contract. Who let Pete Best go?

Cynthia Powell
Aug. 23, 1962
When Lennon found out his fellow art college student (photos) was pregnant, they got married, but it was kept secret. (Why?) Their son was born April 8, 1963. Who was he named after?

Beatles & 'Ed Sullivan'
Feb. 9, 1964
When the Beatles appeared on "The Ed Sullivan Show," they set off Beatlemania in earnest. They also constituted the first phase of what became known as the British Invasion (who else did that include?)

Beatles' popularity
Aug. 15, 1965
The Beatles seemed everywhere, including playing to a record crowd in New York's Shea Stadium (video). They filmed "Help" (clips), they met the King of rock 'n' roll, and the queen of England singled them out for an honor.

Lennon & God
March 1966
Lennon compared the Beatles to Jesus (where was he quoted?), and the Bible Belt responded. The group gave their last concert. (Where?)

Yoko Ono
Nov. 9, 1966
Lennon, who was still married to Cynthia, reportedly met Yoko Ono at a preview of her art show in London. (There are other versions of their meeting.) The event proved life-changing for both of them.

Sgt. Pepper
June 1967
With "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," the Beatles continued to experiment with different musical elements. The result was a psychedelic rock album that some critics regard as one of rock's greatest.

Brian Epstein's death
Aug. 27, 1967
To band members' surprise, their manager, Brian Epstein, died. (What was the cause?) They tried to regroup, meditating with a maharishi, an experience Lennon wrote a song about (lyrics).

The Apple Corps
January 1968

The band formed the Apple Corps. (Why?) It reportedly had management problems. Still, their underwater movie was a box office hit (clips).

Lennon & Ono
May 1968
Lennon and Ono reportedly recorded all night and had an affair. How did Cynthia find out? Lennon and Ono became a high-profile couple --- with their arrest, their racy album cover and their wedding pictures.

Beatles' breakup
September 1969
After the group finished recording its final album, Lennon left. But he agreed to keep his departure secret. (Why?) McCartney broke the news as he announced his first solo album.

Anti-war efforts
Lennon and Ono released "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)," and the Nixon administration was not amused. How did it respond? When did he get his green card?

The 'lost weekend'
1973
Lennon and Ono split up for 18 months, and he moved to L.A. with their assistant, May Pang. (Who reportedly arranged that?) During this time, Lennon had the only solo No. 1 hit of his lifetime. The couple reunited.
Oct. 9, 1975
Lennon's second son, Sean, was born to Ono. (Were there other pregnancies?) Lennon became a househusband, taking a five-year hiatus from the music industry.
November 1980
He and Ono released the "Double Fantasy" album. Lennon reportedly wrote the songs during a life-threatening journey to Bermuda. How was the album received?
Dec. 8, 1980
Mark David Chapman killed Lennon as he and Ono entered their New York apartment building. (Why?) Lennon had earlier autographed an album for Chapman.
The Beatles revolutionized pop music, with the songwriting team of Lennon and McCartney in the forefront. Many bands that followed acknowledge their influence. Lennon, in particular, is admired for his willingness to take risks with his life and his music.

Furios George

This reminds me of a comic I drew a while ago. Not exactly one of my youtube favorites but worth while.

Teenage Dream

Like I said, I hated Glee. I still do, but some songs they sing are quite good. Another clip.

One Love (People Get Together)

I don't like Glee at all. However, I just happened to be flipping through channels when I came upon some cast of Glee singing this song. I'm familiar with the original song, and Glee did a better interpretation of the song. So, that's the song of the Month.

Flintstones Birthday

Millions of Americans grew up watching 'The Flintstones' but it could easily have been 'The Flagstones.' A pilot with that name was shot but Fred and Wilma's last name was eventually changed to avoid confusion with a comic strip family.
The classic series turns 50 years old today and it all started with 'The Flintstone Flyer,' which aired on September 30, 1960.
Mel Blanc did many of the voices, including Barney Rubble, and it took two men to give Fred Flintstone voice, one for singing and one for speaking.
Google it and find out more about this iconic series as it turns 50, from details on the catchy theme song to Fred's classic catchphrase.

Spindrift Island: The Netherworld Chronicles

PREPARE FOR THE BEGINING OF THE END....

Sneak Peek:
A thousand years ago, peoples of the ancient peoples of the world believed and told of the great gods of myth, and great legends of dragons and trolls and elves and wizards. What if they were partially right? What if these creatures really did exist at one time and if true, where could they be now?       The answer: The Netherworlds.       In the dark past, Thor, Ra, Huitzilopochtli, and the rest of the immortals decided to abandon the real world to seek another place of solitude. Together, they created another distant universe where magic rules and where the mysteries and terrors of the capricious beings sway. It’s a place where Vikings still make great voyages for in the name of Thor, where the Aztecs still make humble human sacrifices for Huitzilopochtli, and where Merlin still weaves his magical spells. They divided themselves into their own different realms and for years The Netherworlds has remained apart from the human existence. Now the balances are tipping, and now the trouble causes mayhem and chaos to be unleashed upon all of human existence.

I MET THE WALRUS

In 1969, a 14-year-old Beatle fanatic named Jerry Levitan snuck into John Lennon's hotel room in Toronto and convinced him to do an interview. 38 years later, Levitan, director Josh Raskin and illustrators James Braithwaite and Alex Kurina have collaborated to create an animated short film using the original interview recording as the soundtrack. A spellbinding vessel for Lennon's boundless wit and timeless message, I Met the Walrus was nominated for the 2008 Academy Award for Animated Short and won the 2009 Emmy for 'New Approaches' (making it the first film to win an Emmy on behalf of the internet).

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

"It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains." So begins Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, an expanded edition of the beloved Jane Austen novel featuring all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie mayhem. As our story opens, a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton—and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace, but she's soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and arrogant Mr. Darcy. What ensues is a delightful comedy of manners with plenty of civilized sparring between the two young lovers—and even more violent sparring on the blood-soaked battlefield as Elizabeth wages war against hordes of flesh-eating undead. Can she vanquish the spawn of Satan? And overcome the social prejudices of the class-conscious landed gentry? Complete with romance, heartbreak, swordfights, cannibalism, and thousands of rotting corpses, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies transforms a masterpiece of world literature into something you'd actually want to read.
Jane Austen is the author of Sense and Sensibility, Persuasion, Mansfield Park, and other masterpieces of English literature.
Seth Grahame-Smith once took a class in English literature. He lives in Los Angeles.

How IN The WORLD DID they Do iT?!? Real evidence of talent.

Amazing Talent

As summer starts coming to an end. (A tragic end for me), it just means the start of another school session. Of course, everyone has to be good at something. Whether it's at academic, technology, or even a musical ideal, I think everyone is gifted. However there come those who are just BETTER than others. Okay, listen to this song . It's called 'I'm Yours' by Jason Mraz.

You've heard the whole song now. So I think you get the hang of the tune. If you do not get it still, replay the video. Next, the song with some guy playing the violin by ear.

That kid is good I think, however, is that kid really that white or is it just a camera malfunction. They should really fix that....Now, part three, of my demonstration, the Pizzicato on the violin. In other words, plucking rather than bowing the strings. Now watch this kid.

I really do not admire this guy's horrible singing, but look at what he played the violin like!!! It was like some kind of mini guitar or something. WARNING: Do not try the ABOVE at home unless you know what you're doing. I nearly strangled and broke mine trying to figure out how to play a pizzicato.

Tragic End

There it goes. Another horrible end of the summer for me...
However, besides getting pelted food from a hobo, the trip went swell. I mean it. From California, we went to Oregon. And they had a lot of mosquitos. Have you seen there size?
OMEGA INSECT
Anyways, we went up into Seattle, and into Vancouver, Canada. Rode a boat to Victoria where the hobos there were really violent and then went back down here, in CA. I guess that sums up most of my trip...
Well, with only a week and a half left of school. I have no idea what to do. BY the way, I welcome the newest member of the KEEPERHAVEN, JohnLennonFan.
Congrats
