Flintstones Birthday

Millions of Americans grew up watching 'The Flintstones' but it could easily have been 'The Flagstones.' A pilot with that name was shot but Fred and Wilma's last name was eventually changed to avoid confusion with a comic strip family.
The classic series turns 50 years old today and it all started with 'The Flintstone Flyer,' which aired on September 30, 1960.
Mel Blanc did many of the voices, including Barney Rubble, and it took two men to give Fred Flintstone voice, one for singing and one for speaking.

A thousand years ago, peoples of the ancient peoples of the world believed and told of the great gods of myth, and great legends of dragons and trolls and elves and wizards. What if they were partially right? What if these creatures really did exist at one time and if true, where could they be now?       The answer: The Netherworlds.       In the dark past, Thor, Ra, Huitzilopochtli, and the rest of the immortals decided to abandon the real world to seek another place of solitude. Together, they created another distant universe where magic rules and where the mysteries and terrors of the capricious beings sway. It’s a place where Vikings still make great voyages for in the name of Thor, where the Aztecs still make humble human sacrifices for Huitzilopochtli, and where Merlin still weaves his magical spells. They divided themselves into their own different realms and for years The Netherworlds has remained apart from the human existence. Now the balances are tipping, and now the trouble causes mayhem and chaos to be unleashed upon all of human existence.
